Enrollment Information
A major emphasis of the Basic School Program is the development of academic skills and good study habits. Students must meet admission criteria to be accepted to the lottery for the Basic Program.
OPEN ENROLLMENT PROCEDURES
Application Information and Deadlines: February 1 – February 15, 2023
Open Enrollment for the Basic Program is managed through the district’s Open Enrollment procedures. You must live in the SCUSD area to apply through Open Enrollment. The criteria for admission to Camellia is that students must be “at or above” grade level, have good attendance, and good behavior. All applicants are assessed by Camellia teachers prior to the lottery. At the close of the Open Enrollment period, applicants who meet qualifications (residence and entrance criteria) will be placed in the available spaces through a lottery system. Follow these steps:
1. Current Kindergarten: The Kindergarten teachers will test all Camellia Kindergarten students during the classroom day. Appointments will be made after school for all non- Camellia Kindergarten students to be tested.
2. Students applying for grades 1st through 6th will be assessed at Camellia by current Camellia teachers after school, by appointment.
3. Students meeting “BASIC” criteria will go into the district Open Enrollment lottery. (late March, early April)
4. Students assigned slots in the lottery will be contacted and will register at the district Enrollment Center. (mid April-May)
5. Students applying after the enrollment window closes are still screened at Camellia, and then notified to enroll at the Enrollment Center if criteria are met and space exists.
Outside of Open Enrollment Window, as Space is Available:
During Summer Months – Late June through Mid-August
Students will continue to be accepted as space exists. During the summer months, please email or fax the following information:
Follow these steps:
1. Copy of the child’s most recent report card and standardized test scores for the Principal to review.
2. Student’s meeting “BASIC” criteria will have names sent to the Enrollment Center and parents will be contacted and instructed to enroll at the Enrollment Center. The enrollment center will inform parents of necessary documentation needed to register.
