Classroom Observation and Visitation Policy

Classroom Observation and Visitation Policy

Overview
Partnering with Families to Support Student Success

At Camellia Elementary, we value strong family-school partnerships and welcome parents and guardians who wish to observe their child’s learning environment. We believe that when families are informed and engaged, student success is strengthened.

To protect the integrity of instruction and maintain a productive learning environment for all students, we have established the following guidelines for classroom observations and visitations:

Scheduling and Coordination

To help us maintain a safe and focused learning environment while supporting family engagement, we offer two options for arranging classroom observations:

Option 1: 24-Hour Notice (Preferred)

Families may contact the classroom teacher directly at least 24 hours in advance to schedule a classroom observation. This option allows for the most efficient coordination, as teachers are best equipped to determine appropriate times for visits that minimize disruption and align with their instructional plans.

Option 2: 48-Hour Notice

Families may also notify the school office at least 48 hours in advance of an intended visit. This allows time for the office to notify the teacher, who will then follow up directly with the parent/guardian to arrange a suitable observation time.

In both cases, visits must be scheduled in advance. Walk-in classroom visitations cannot be accommodated.

During Your Visit
  • All visitors must sign in at the front office and wear a visitor badge while on campus.
  • Visitors are asked not to interact with the teacher, students, or materials, or cause any distraction to instruction while observing.
  • Keep cell phones on silent and avoid recording or photographing during the visit.
  • For safety and supervision reasons, children may not accompany visitors during classroom observations, unless approved in advance by the principal for special circumstances (e.g., transition support for a newly enrolled student).
General Guidelines
  • Classroom visits are intended for current parents/guardians only. We do not allow extended family members, friends, or other guests to attend classroom visits unless prior authorization is granted by the principal.
  • The school reserves the right to limit the number of visitors in a classroom at any given time to ensure a safe and focused learning environment.
  • While we welcome your partnership, please note that Camellia does not accept requests for specific classroom teachers, unless there is a documented educational or safety need.

We are committed to maintaining open communication and fostering trust between our staff and families. These guidelines help ensure that all students receive uninterrupted learning time while providing families with a respectful and informative window into their child’s educational experience.

Thank you for partnering with us to support a focused, safe, and collaborative school environment.
